Dr. Yuchuan Miao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Biology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His group uses pluripotent stem cells to study human development, focusing on musculoskeletal organs including the spine and limb. His group build innovative organoid systems to model spine and limb development in the dish and use them to uncover molecular and cellular design principles. They further leverage developmental lessons to advance tissue engineering and promote regenerative medicine.
Dr. Miao received his PhD at Johns Hopkins in 2019 and then underwent postdoc training at Harvard Medical school till 2024. His expertise includes human development, stem cell technology, signal transduction, cell migration, tissue engineering, etc. He was recognized with many awards including Michael A. Shanoff Research Award (JHU), Rising Stars in Engineering in Health, Development journal’s Pathway to Independence programme, and Allen Institute Next Generation Leaders. His group received the K99/R00 award from NIH and Launch award from Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund.
