CMR Seminar Series: Prof. Denis Noble
Prof. Noble is an Emeritus Professor at Oxford University. A pioneer of systems biology, Prof. Noble developed the first computer models of the heart, published in Nature in 1960. As Secretary-General of the International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS) Prof. Noble played a major role in launching the Human Physiome Project, an international project to use computer simulations to create quantitative physiological models to interpret the genome. He then was President of IUPS from 2009 to 2017. In addition, Prof. Noble is a philosopher of biology and has authored many books on the topic of systems biology as well as philosophy. The Music of Life, published in 2006, was the first popular science book on systems biology. His most recent book, Dance to the Tune of Life, published in 2016, formulates the theory of biological relativity and uses a humanistic, holistic approach to challenge the common gene-centered view in modern biology and culture.
For his work, Prof. Noble received many national and international prizes and distinctions, including election as a Fellow of the Royal Society, Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, several doctorates, and Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE). We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting Professor Denis Noble CBE FRS as our invited speaker for this month. Prof. Noble's talk, "Muscle Cramp: How it Happens and How it Can Be Relieved" will be hosted on Zoom and take place on Wednesday, April 19th. The scheduled start time is 12:00 pm EST.
